Canada Post labour dispute deadline extended

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have agreed to extend the Conciliation process, which was set to expire on April 1. This new timeline means that the earliest date for a potential work disruption would be midnight on May 24, 2011. Canada Post is pleased with this development as it will allow both parties to continue the bargaining process while maintaining service to its customers.

As previously mentioned, CUPW is currently holding a strike vote with their members across the country, with the results of the vote expected in mid-April. This does not mean that there will be a work stoppage at Canada Post as a vote is part of the negotiation process. In a recent release, Canada Post said they remain committed to the collective bargaining process and negotiating a new collective agreement.

If you have any issues with Canada Post service and delivery during the negotiations, please contact Newspapers Canada CEO John Hinds at jhinds@newspaperscanada.ca. CUPW representatives have also been invited to the OCNA Spring Convention to speak with publishers.
