OCNF Student Distance Placement Program

To facilitate the endurance and continued growth of Ontario's community newspaper industry, the Ontario Community Newspapers Foundation (OCNF) offers the Student Distance Placement Program. Undergraduate Journalism students who are going to be spending a co-op term or internship at a community newspaper are encouraged to apply.

Up to $2,000 in funding will be granted to selected students to help cover the cost of transportation, meals and rent during their placement period.

OCNF's intent is to attract talented up-and-coming journalists to the industry as a viable and long-term career option, and to provide a valuable educational experience to aspiring journalists who, without adequate funding, would otherwise not have the opportunity to do so.

Students will be selected based on their academic performance, evidence of financial need and distance to their placement location. If selected, students must communicate with their program coordinator and the newspaper member of their choice to ensure their placement course requirements are met.

Note: In order to qualify, students must be completing their internship at one of our member newspapers. For a complete list of our current members, please visit www.ocna.org.

Application packages are available on our website under  OCNA Programs & Services. You must be logged in as a member to access this information.
