Globe staff to hold strike vote

The current employment contract of workers at the Globe and Mail is due to expire June 30, and as that deadline approaches, negotiations have been taking place between the company and the union which represents its editorial, advertising, and circulation employees. According to a union official for the paper, employees will vote whether to approve or reject a strike mandate on Saturday.
While Brad Honywill, president of Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada Local 87-M, did not give details as to the issues behind the talks thus far, he hopes that with a strike mandate, the Globe “will come back to the bargaining table willing to negotiate.”
Three more bargaining sessions are scheduled before workers’ contracts expire on the 30th.
