OpenFile strives to engage users through collaboration

Toronto-based local news site OpenFile.ca has recently launched a beta version, and is encouraging those living in the city and surrounding areas to get involved. Users who register on the beta site are able to pitch ideas – including those on local news and issues – to the OpenFile editorial team, who will then determine whether they warrant further investigation. Once a pitch is approved, a reporter is assigned to follow up with the idea and provide an avenue for open discussion and collaboration with the rest of the OpenFile community. That can include the addition of comments, images, video and links that can add context to, or promote further development of the original story.
Users can also follow OpenFile developments on Twitter and Facebook, where regular updates on pitches and more candid commentary can be made by the community. To see the collaboration in action, visit www.openfile.ca.
