Primedia buys Kubas, services go ‘hand in hand’

Toronto-based research and consulting firm Kubas Consultants was recently acquired by Canadian Primedia Sales and Marketing Inc., which represents more than 130 newspapers, magazines and websites in the country, in a bid to expand the company’s U.S. client base. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Primedia President Ron Clark said the deal would offer a host of complimentary benefits to both companies.

“Kubas doesn't sell ads – Primedia is not a consulting company; we're complimentary and we don't trip over each other. We go hand in hand,” he said. “The acquisition improves our arsenal in helping newspapers to restart their businesses after the advertising dearth during the past two years.”

As part of the acquisition, Len Kubas, president and CEO of Kubas Consultants, will continue to be chairman of the firm for the next three years as it undergoes a re-branding process. Under the deal, the firm will also open an office in New York City. Kubas Consultants’ annual market-research study, which was cancelled in 2008 during the recession, may also see a relaunch.
